Caring for Our Community in Times of Crisis

In recent weeks, many have found themselves overwhelmed by the growing reports of antisemitism in the United States. From hateful rhetoric and harassment to acts of violence targeting Jewish individuals and institutions, these incidents have shaken our sense of safety and belonging.

For many in the Jewish community, the emotional toll is deep. It is rooted not only in fear for the present, but also in the painful echoes of history. The anxiety, heartbreak and sense of vulnerability are real, and they are being felt across generations.

Understanding the Emotional Impact

Experiencing or witnessing traumatic events can lead to a wide range of emotional and physical responses. These are normal reactions to an abnormal situation, but they can often feel overwhelming.

Some common signs of trauma and stress include unpredictable emotional swings, physical symptoms like headaches or nausea, sleep disturbances, changes in appetite, heightened sensitivity to sounds or crowds and difficulties in relationships or social withdrawal.

Many people find comfort through faith, family and self-care. But for others, the weight of trauma may require professional support to begin healing.

JFCS Is Here to Help
