About This Event
- Event Type:Classes
The Cosanti Foundation was established in 1965 and is actively engaged to explore the experiential and educational benefits of integrating architecture and ecology. Its mission is "Inspiring a reimagined urbanism that builds resilient and equitable communities sustainably integrated with the natural world. This presentation traces the origin of the Foundation from Paolo Soleri’s (1919–2013) early architectural work, his innovative earth casting building techniques developed at Cosanti, the genesis of the concept of Arcology, to the building of Arcosanti: the Urban Laboratory, which broke ground in 1970 with the intention of developing and demonstrating a resilient urban system featuring robust cultural, educational and economic activities.
